Meltdown & Spectre Mass Vulnerability
We’re sure you’ve heard of the mass vulnerability known as “Meltdown” and “Spectre”. If you have not here is the scoop. This is a vulnerability in the hardware of almost every computing device out there! We have certain recommendations for you!
Palmer Technology Solutions recommends that you gather a list of servers, workstations, laptops, routers, access points and cell phones. If you have Proactive Monitoring and Maintenance through Palmer Technology Solutions a list of monitored devices can be provided upon request.
We will be contacting break fix customers to perform the updates on their equipment.
Devices and software that will need updates
Servers (physical, virtual, data, email, database, phone systems, surveillance, etc.)
- Firmware – Updates for customers with Managed Cloud Hosted and Managed On-Site hosted servers will automatically be performed.
- Antivirus/Antimalware Software – Updates for customers with Managed Premium Anti-Virus and Anti-Malware Premium will automatically be performed
- Operating System
- Windows – Updates for devices with Proactive Monitoring and Maintenance will be performed
- Mac – Manual Updates
- Linux or Other – Manual Updates
Workstation, Laptops and Tablets
- Firmware – Updates for customers with Managed Cloud Hosted and Managed On-Site hosted servers will automatically be performed.
- Antivirus/Antimalware Software – Updates for customers with Managed Premium Anti-Virus and Anti-Malware Premium will automatically be performed

- Windows – Updates for devices with Proactive Monitoring and Maintenance will be performed

- Firmware – Updates for customers with Managed Security will automatically be patched
Modems (Internet Service Provide Modems)
- Manual Updates
Access Points
- Firmware – Updates for customers with Managed Security will automatically be patched
Switches
- No known updates necessary at this time
Cell Phones
- Manual update from Apple or Android (each user can perform)
